Review for Haunted Destiny

The first review for Haunted Destiny is in! 5 out of 5 hearts from Night Owl Romance. It is also on of their Reviewer Top Picks.
Prologue from Haunted Destiny
Frosthaven, Connecticut 1857

Enya awoke gasping and coughing. She opened her eyes but the smoke was so thick she couldn’t see. Each breath she took drew more acrid black smoke into her lungs as she fought to breathe. Confused she slipped from her bed and yelped as the hot floor burned the soles of her bare feet. Her house was on fire. She squinted and tried to see through the smoke but it burned her eyes causing them to fill with tears.
There was a pounding on her door. “Enya! Open the door.”
It was her father and she could tell by the slurring of his words that he was drunk, again. Oh Dear Lord, what had he done? Where was her mother and baby brother?
“I can’t get to the door, Father. The floor is too hot.” She coughed as the smoke grew thicker in the room. She had to get out but she didn’t know how. She had to get to her mother and brother. “Where are Mother and Shane?”
Her father pounded on the door again. “Let me in, you wench. I can’t get to you through a locked door.”
After a short pause Enya heard her father slam his body into the door trying to break in but the latch held firm. There was no way he could get in. Her thoughts came rushing at her all at once, fear chilling her in spite of the heat. She processed his words as she’d done so many times before. He did not say “get you out”, he said, “Get to you”. Her heart hammered in her chest. His folly with drink had finally come to demand its recompense. It didn’t matter that her father, the Honorable Judge Frost, was one of the most prominent men in town. When the drink took over he was as mean and low as any of the criminals he put behind bars.
She had to get to Shane and her mother. This thought moved Enya to action. . Even though the floor was hot and would burn her she had to get down below the smoke and get to the door. Bracing for the burning pain she dropped to the floor on her hands and knees and scrambled to the door. Her long wool nightgown protected her knees from the sticky varnish coating heating up on the floor boards, but not her hands. She left pieces of skin behind on her fast trek to the door. Without thinking, Enya reached up and grabbed the copper doorknob. The searing of her flesh ripped a scream from her parched throat drawing even more smoke into her lungs. Cradling her hand she sat down hard on the floor.

Scent of a Vampire by Jude Stephens

Olivia’s world is turned upside down when she learns she is a unique being and is just one of many such beings that walk the earth unbeknownst to humans. Besides being pursued by two sexy vampires, it seems she is a hot commodity. A group of fanatics named the Guardians want to use her abilities to purify the earth of the evolved species. Olivia is forced to flee with an incredibly sexy Italian vampire who teaches her all about her ability to feel passion more intensely than a normal human.
Their journey takes them across the Pine Barrens of New Jersey where they meet a legendary creature who has a surprising story, to the shores of Lake Ontario where ancient Native American legends come to life. Through all this Olivia struggles with her new found abilities and her attraction to two vampires who both make her sizzle.
Better than Awesome, June 23, 2009 By Lady Esme (Ct.) - See all my reviews This book is an awesome read. This is a definite "adult version" of Twilight, sexy, hot, but with a romantic story to die for. Jude Stephens manages to combine hot scenes, hot vamps, and ordinary women into a story that you can't put down. Of course this is not just your ordinary sex scene after sex scene, Jude manages to fit it all right together in an extraordinary story line. In a "Scent of a Vampire" Olivia grows from the ordinary to the extraordinary, with circumstances against her. With the help of her Vamp lover (hot, Italian, dark, and sexy) Roberto, she learns to harness some of her power that she's growing into. Making friends along the way, the colorful Leeds (hot, hot), Juan, Christoforo (Roberto's brother), and Alex (whom Olivia forms an unbreakable bond with, of course by accident), she has to sort though and find out who's with her, who's against her. All the time her best friend Janel has been thrust into taking this wild ride with her. This book kept me glued to my Kindle until I finished. It has everything, Love, romance, action, suspense, and hot vampires. The character development is awesome. I have heard, there is a sequel in the future, I really can't wait. I recommend this book to all adult pnr romance fans.

Seduced by Jennifer Beckham

It had been horrible to even think that I could do this now. I couldn’t get her out of my head and that was the thing that puzzled me. Why was I letting a day walker, a very dumb one at that, get inside my head and make me regret decisions I would’ve never thought of thinking about twice? Why did I even care about her in the first place?
"No, I believe in you.” She whispered back.
That was all it took for me to hate her because it was easier to hate her than realize what was really going on inside of me—what I was really trying to hide. It was easier for me to hurt her and torture her rather than please her. I could deal with the pain of hurting her more than I could the other. Maybe I was selfish, but I didn't care. I couldn't care about a lot of things, and that's what left me vulnerable. It left me alone. It left me open to her. And as I stared into her unconditional eyes, I realized that maybe it was harder not to care about her.I gulped a huge amount of oxygen and then regretted it because it was tainted with her infectious scent. It burned its way slowly down my esophagus and I wanted to scream. She was a day walker! Why couldn’t I realize that? Why didn’t I want to?

Review from Jessica at "Satin and Lace Reviews"
While Damian has dark thoughts and actions (vampire – duh!), it’s easy to fall in love with him and cheer him on in his quest to make Aleana fall in love with him. The story is well written and the author’s descriptions bring the characters to life. Ms. Beckham created a unique story, which is a difficult task in a time when vampires run rampant amongst the bookshelves.
Rating: 4.5/5

“Do you believe in the boogeyman?” I whispered shyly in her ear, letting my words tickle her neck.
